In the next few days, Association members should receive their copy of the 16mm Scale Modeller’s Guide to the Talyllyn Railway. As you’re aware, it’s been a long time in the making, but we are proud of the result.

Thanks are due to the authors: Mike Riley, who describes the origins of the line and its locomotives, Jonathan Mead, writing about TR carriage and goods wagons prototypes and models, the late Simon Atkinson, who gave us an interview on his own TR modelling of locomotives and buildings, Kes Jones, who talks about the TR’s own garden railway, Llechfan, Richard Huss on the signal operations on the line, and a contribution by Luke Ryan who shares with us the plans for the future of the TR this year and beyond. All this is in the Guide, plus more on the Rev. Awdry and the TR, a pull-out map of the line, the history of the quarry at Bryn Eglwys, a kit building demonstration to encourage members to model the TR, and many, many photographs. This has all been made possible by former SMT editor, Gareth Jones, who volunteered his time to lay out what will soon be in the post to you, the membership.

And we’re even more pleased that thanks to the recent agreement with Warners for the NGRS 2026, the Board was able to fund a printed copy of the guide. So please enjoy the result of this special publication project, and we hope that it provides inspiration to members to find a corner of their own lines with room for a TR model or three.
