It‘s long been the Board’s desire to feed some of the Association’s surplus back to members by providing additional benefits. We’ve done this in various ways in the past, but by far the most welcomed has been an additional publication, to supplement the issues of SMT and Bulletin which form the core benefit to members. To create such a publication, we need a volunteer to lead the project. I’m extremely pleased to announce that Andrew Mountfield, whom some will know from the Association’s Facebook page, has stepped forward to take this on.
The Special Publication will like its predecessors focus on a particular railway from a modeller’s perspective, in this case the Talyllyn Railway, and is planned for publication early in 2023. Andrew will be editing the publication and would be pleased to hear from members who can contribute in any of these areas:
- Photographs, drawings and background information of TR 16mm scale locomotives and rolling stock, both ancient and modern.
- Information, drawings and photos of buildings and structures from along the line from Tywyn through to Nant Gwernol.
- Information on more specialised topics, such as the original quarry or signalling and train control on the TR.
- And other ideas about what you’d like to read about, or even better, write about!
If you think you can help, please contact Andrew at special.publications@16mm.org.uk.
We’ve agreed to collaborate with the Talyllyn Railway in the production of this guide. Once published, we’ll both offer the guide for sale, just as we did with other railways and previous guides, so archive material that the TR holds which might benefit the guide is available to this project. I know that many Association members are also TR members, so if you know of drawings or pictures that the TR holds that might help Andrew in compiling the guide, please let him know.
