I am a descendent of George Henry Wood – a Director of the Isle of Man Railway from 1875; he is my great-great-grandfather. An engine, built in 1905, was named after him, and it seems likely that he was the inspiration for the “Fat Controller” in the Railway Series books – once you see the picture you’ll see why.

I commissioned Accucraft to adapt one of their models to represent his loco, No. 10.

The real loco is undergoing repair and boiler refurbishment at present (see photos) and will hopefully be back in action in 2022.
