16mm Association Publications
We provide the following three main publications to our members: 16mm Today magazine, 16mm Bulletin newsletter and the New Member’s Guide.
16mm
Today is a full-colour magazine that is published every quarter,
during the early part of May, August and November and the latter
part of February. As well as being an inspirational read on all
aspects of 16mm modelling, awaited with great anticipation by our
members, it builds into a valuable reference to support your
modelling activities.
The articles in 16mm Today are written by our members. We actively encourage our members to use our magazine to share their modelling experiences – see how to write an article for 16mm Today for guidance on how to do this.
The value of 16mm Today is enhanced by the 16mm Today (SMT) index and by the availability of back number sales.
Traders and event organisers can place advertisements in 16mm Today – see how to place an advert in 16mm Today for more information, including our current advertising rates.
16mm Bulletin (formerly Exchange) is a quarterly newsletter published at the same time as 16mm Today.
It contains general Association information, details of future national events and dates and times of the many local area activities taking place for members around the country.
16mm Bulletin also includes a lively letters section – 16mm Forum – and a free “Items for sale” and “Items wanted” service for the use of members.
The editor of 16mm Bulletin is Ian Shields. Please e-mail Ian with any letters, advertisements or 'Shed Notices' for publication in 16mm Bulletin. .
Details of any national event should be e-mailed to our publicity officer Rod Nipper publicity.officer@16mm.org.uk who will arrange for them to appear in our advertising in other magazines, on this website, and in 16mm Bulletin as well.
The New Member’s Guide is supplied to every new member as part of their joining pack. It is a 64-page full-colour guide to all aspects of 16mm modelling, with chapters on:
- Garden Railway origins
- Scales and gauges
- The prototype
- Wheels, standards and other guidelines
- Planning the railway
- Foundations and trackwork
- Steam and battery motive power
- Remote and radio control
- Rolling stock, lineside buildings
- Security
The latest issue of the new member’s guide was revised in late 2011. It will help you to build that garden railway you always dreamed of – or dream about that garden railway you’ve promised yourself you’ll build one day.
