General information

Publications

  • Published monthly, Garden Rail magazine covers all aspects of outdoor model railways.

Clubs and societies

  • The G Scale Society was founded in 1987 and now has over 1400 members in the UK and overseas. It caters for all modellers working in G Scale (the modelling of narrow gauge railways on track 45mm wide)  and has a liberal approach, believing that enjoyment is just as important as rivet-counting.
  • If you are interested in full size Narrow Gauge, try the Narrow Gauge Railway Society.
  • The 16mm Association of Mamod and Oscillator Locomotives - Owners, Collectors and Mamodificationers has been formed to provide a comprehensive network of familiar minded people who all have a passion for anything "oscillator". This includes any locomotive made with an oscillating cylinder or cylinders and any form of firing, be it tablet, gas or methylated spirits on either 32mm or 45mm.
  • The 16mm Garratt Owners & operators Association will appeal to all who like large locomotives that bend.
  • Brambleton Model Railway Club have both 'O' gauge and 16mm scale/32mmm gauge circuits and regularly host meetings for the West Herts Area Group of the Association.
  • Ipswich Model Engineering Society have a 45mm track of over 120 metres in length. Meetings take place on a Tuesday evening and prospective new members are always welcome. They also have 3.5 and 5 inch raised lines for larger scales.
  • The Gauge One Model Railway Association covers mainly standard gauge on 45mm gauge track but there is much of interest to 16mm narrow gauge modellers.
  • For a standard gauge feeder to your narrow gauge line try the Gauge '3' Society.
  • The LNWR society is for enthusiasts of the "Premier Line". (This is not the Little North Worcestershire Railway).
  • The Ashmanhaugh Light Railway is a delightful 7.25 inch gauge railway at Wroxham in Norfolk
