Roundhouse Engineering

Roundhouse Engineering are pleased to announce that their new locomotive "Tom Rolt" will be on their stand at Stoneleigh

The prototype locomotive was designed by John Bate at the Talyllyn Railway Pendre works and was built using parts from a 1948 Barclay 3' gauge locomotive as well as many new items

The project took over 20 years to complete and the loco entered service in 1991 as No.7, 'Tom Rolt'. It is named after the transport history and engineering author, LTC Rolt who inspired the rescue of the Talyllyn Railway by volunteers and was the TR's first General Manager after preservation

In the last 19 years, the loco has undergone a number of minor changes and our model is based on the engine as originally built.

Interestingly for many years during construction the intended name for the loco was 'Irish Pete' but following an uprising against that particular name 'Tom Rolt' was chosen at a Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society AGM

Loco-Boxes

Loco-boxes will have the long awaited 'Carrier' on display at Stoneleigh this year. The 'Carrier' keeps all your loco related bits & bobs (not forgetting your loco!) in one place & ready for a steaming session at a moments notice -  no more rushing round at the last minute making sure you have your water, gas, oil, tools, loco, radio transmitter etc, it's all here & ready to go! The 'Carrier' is available in any length & can be supplied with the divider in the centre section set at any width. The example shown in the photo is set for a standard width 'Loco-Boxes' box, but as shown, the loco can be placed direct into the 'Carrier, if required. The 'Carrier' is avalable stained or unstained.

The loco 'Cradle' that has proved a hit with locomotive operators has been improved yet again! The 'Cradle' now has the options of being ordered with a one piece handle & end stop, allowing the operator to lift the whole loco using just one hand. This will be on the Loco-Boxes stand & available for closer inspection as well as the range of boxes (made for all sizes of locomotive) & butane gas, butane/propane mix gas & coal at the best prices. (Photo courtesy of Huw Williams)

Loco-Boxes are also the worldwide distributors for Notx products. Notx electronic products have been developed with the garden railway modeller in mind.  These products are designed to interface with standard radio control hardware available from good model shops.  Notx One operates standard radio control servos without using a radio transmitter, this unit was initially developed to simultaneously operate both sets of Beyer-Garratt type locomotive valve gear, but has many other applications.  Notx Two gives an on-board manual control option to an existing electronic speed control.  Notx Three has been developed for remote operation of points using radio control servos as the prime mover. Pleas ask us to give you a demonstration on our stand (situated next to 'Ttarrag Shed') at Stoneleigh

Miniature Scale Models LLP

Miniature Scale Models LLP will be exhibiting an example of one of pdf-models hand made garden railway buildings.

AnDel Models

*** Update 9th April ***

AnDel Models is pleased to introduce two new Electronic Items, The ACME Engineering Sound System and AnDel Models Cruise Control.

The Sound System has been developed by ACME Engineering and is ideal for use with the O&K Loco and the Baldwin Loco. The system is designed to run in a wagon on the train, such as the M.O.D. Box van illustrated, and can be used with multiple locos. AnDel Models will have a completed unit running on the test track as a demonstrator. Priced at £36

Designed in conjunction with Timpdon Electronics, the Cruise Control Unit is designed to work with R/C systems, such as the Planet 5, and on Steam locomotives using a separate reverser channel, such as Roundhouse. The unit allows the user to toggle the direction of the gear using the transmitter stick; the gear will not be altered until the stick is toggled in the opposite direction.

The unit also acts as a Fail Safe; if the radio is tuned off, or signal lost, the gear will remain in the direction of travel. The unit allows Locomotives to be set at the required speed and direction of travel, then the handset to be put down. Priced at £18

*** End Update***

AnDel Models specialises in the production of pre-coloured, simple to assemble resin rolling stock kits and ready built locomotives. The AnDel models website and stand have a large range of kits and accessories with Locomotives from Roundhouse, Regner and Mamod. Accessories range through from modeling tools and working lamps from Miniature Scale Models, to Planet 5 2.4 GHz radio systems. We also stock a large range of StarLoc superglues including brushable and non-fogging types for glazing.

The new Baldwin Locomotive, in the F.R. Moelwyn form. Available pre-built to order; £450 for the radio control version using an AnDel Models specification Ultra Rad radio system, and £320 for the manual speed controlled version. Colours are green, dark green and maroon. Both versions are provided with a dedicated charger.

The new Baldwin Locomotive, in the War Department form with the gas tank on the bonnet. Available pre-built to order; £450 for the radio control version using an AnDel Models specification Ultra Rad radio system, and £320 for the manual speed controlled version. Colours are khaki or grey.

The new Bogie Open Coach is the next small bogie coach on offer. Like the original this is short in length, pre-coloured in a variety of colours and quick to assemble. Wheels, bogies and couplings are included in the price of £60

The G.V.T. coach, always a popular model, has been updated to simplify the build and incorporate the latest ideas and production techniques. The chassis has been designed with correct size wheels and pattern axle boxes, the interior simplified and a lift off roof fitted to allow access for populating and detailing. The kit is available in pre-coloured green, and other colours by request, and priced at £45 for 32mm and 45mm gauge.

The AnDel models Ffestiniog Bug Box is to scale and pre-coloured in either red and green, or Victorian brown. Assembly is simple and straightforward with pre-curved ends and a lift off roof. The wheels supplied can be set to either 32mm or 45mm gauge. Current Bug Boxes are the 3rd class and the 1st class, as illustrated, with the other versions planned for the near future. Kit Price £36

The model of the D Class is a scale model and is based on a steel frame and bogie prototype. Versions of this type found their way on to many narrow gauge railways after they were sold as surplus stock at the end of hostilities in 1918. The model is simple to assemble with a one-piece body and chassis, with separate casting details. The body of the model is pre-coloured and only a small amount of detail painting is required. The kit is available in Khaki or Grey at a price of £57 and includes Bogies, wheels for 32mm gauge, and couplings.

The War Department Bogies are available on their own for the home builder for £26 inc wheels for 32mm gauge. They are simple to assemble, taking approximately half an hour, and require only detail painting of the brake wheel and rod to complete.

Another updated design for 2010 is the cast slate buffer stop. Now available as a kit of 3 parts and the price reduced to £6.50. The perfect end to that siding!

ACME Engineering

*** STOP PRESS ***

MESSAGE STARTS

The new Mk2 ACME chuff pipe will be on sale on the ACME stand. See and hear it in action on the Youtube video > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CPJWMYdiQw

One of these new pipes fitted to a Accucraft engine will be running on a layout at Stoneleigh. Full details are available on the ACME Engineering stand at the show.

MESSAGE ENDS

Things to look out for on the ACME stand this year include:

1) An extension of range of 1/2" diameter pressure gauges to include a model to fit the latest range of live steam engines from Accucraft, Roundhouse, Regner, Aster, etc.. In addition to the exiting 0-80 lbs/sq" range our gauges can now be supplied in a range from 0-100 lbs/sq" range.

2) An extension of the ACME range of chuff pipes to fit the latest Accucraft live steam engines. We have made and sold 100's of our chuff pipes for Accucraft engines since we began working closely with what was then Marches Models in 2001. These cost only £15 and if the engine is brought to our stand the ACME chuff pipe will be fitted for free. Your warranty is not affected because we are a authorised Accucraft UK service agent. Compare this with others priced at £40 fitted.

3) Spectacle plates to fit new models of live steam engines.

4) As UK agent for sound units from Mylocosound of Australia we will be demonstrating and selling their excellent value systems available in either steam or diesel sounds. The tempo varies with the speed of the engine and have a horn or whistle sound. Working with either track power, external trigger or RC. See > http://www.mylocosound.com/

5)Our own range of ACME sound unit systems which are actual recordings of the real thing. The range includes a Lister twin diesel with typical ,"Kerchunk, kerchunk," sound, a single cylinder engine of the JAP petrol engine fitted to some early small industrial engines and a multi cylinder diesel of the Petter Atomic/Gardner type. All the sounds undulate to convey the impression that the engine is working and come in a ready to fit kit comprising sound unit, loudspeaker, on/off switch, PP3 battery and holder, insulated wire and full instructions. The units are compact and easily fitted for example into a Andel models small box van. We also make our own CNC laser cut coal wagon kit which is designed to accept the system and can be run on either 32mm or 45mm gauge track. Complete vehicles already fitted with sound can be supplied. Our system adds a whole new dimension, realistically bringing life to small diesels such as those from Andel and IP. Fitting a sound unit to a wagon means that one unit can be used with many engines.

6) Some engines will be for sale from the stand, including a Gosling G.V.T steam tram engine with original tools and in perfect condition.

7) Our new range of 16mm CNC laser cut kits. On offer will be a G.V.T 1891 centre door body kit @ £18.

8) Our range of 7/8" CNC laser cut quarry wagon kits. Designed for ease of assembly the range now includes a Ffestiniog/Penryhn slate wagon, flat wagon, horse dandy, coal wagon, (To accept our ACME sound unit system), G.V.T 1891 centre door and clerestory coaches and Penryhn open workmens' coach.

9) Some examples of our custom built engines made for customers, using commercially made parts wherever possible to reduce expense and provide for ease of maintenance.

10) ACME are sharing their stand with Rob Bennett from Busybodies. Rob is making and selling in conjunction with ACME a range of accessories to go with their 7/8" kits. These include brake men, slate loads and seated/standing figures. ACME's 7/8" kits have been designed  to accept Accucraft wheelsets in either 32 or 45mm gauges. They will have these on sale as well as couplings made for them by Andel.

And Rob being Rob just couldn't resist bringing along three ladies from Slough with a rather famous poet.....

The Compton Down Railway

Peter Jones AuctionNearly everyone knows of Peter Jones's amazing railway, and his overall contribution to 16mm modelling from the very early days. It ended sadly all too soon, and his family now have the very difficult task of disposing of his collection of locos and stock, currently in secure storage. They have decided to auction everything by way of sealed bids, and a basic stocklist is available for viewing on the Compton Down Railway website, http://web.me.com/djescher/Comptondown/comptonstock/

Whilst most 16mm modellers will be familiar with some of the items through Peter's writings, and a few will have lucky enough to have visited the line, in the main his collection has not been on general view and certainly not all together in one place.

With very grateful thanks to Peter's family, they have kindly put the final date for bids back to April 14th, and are allowing the complete collection to be displayed on the Phurcombe Hall stand at the AGM. Make no mistake, this is a golden and once in a lifetime opportunity to see the achievements of one of the true 16mm greats.

Triassic Model Works

Unfortunately due to the untimely death of Alan Walker of Triassic Model Works at Ealing Hospital on Tuesday 16th March there will be no Triassic models available for purchase at Stoneleigh.

Raif Copley intends to bring almost the complete collection of Triassic Models for display on the stand which Alan had booked, but will not be able to fulfill any orders which may have been placed or take any new orders. There will be no kits available for sale. Raif intends to display the models in such a way as to be a tribute to Alan.

Triassic Model Works are pleased to announce the release of two new South African Railway coach body kits - TM23 SAR 4 compartment first/lavatory bogie coach and TM56 SAR 5 compartment composite/lavatory bogie coach.

TM23 SAR 4 compartment first/Lav

TM56 SAR 5 compartment composite/lav

Classic Models

Classic Models of Cleethorpes have been appointed agents for Paul Industrial (India).  This is an Indian Model Rail company.  At Stoneleigh they will launch a new loco - a Brass Bo-Bo Himalayan Diesel with sound and radio control.

DHLR Diesel

Its 32/45 re-gaugeable and will be on their stall for all those running the 'B' class and who need to make their Roundhouse Loco's redundant!   They will also have a Fowler resilient and a small Lister, both these are brass with electric motors/battery control.

Camden Miniature Steam ServicesJennie

Camden will be attending the show again this year with their wide range of books etc.

We are particularly delighted that John Snell has agreed to our reprinting this novel, originally published in 1958, shortly after graduating and his experiences helping to keep the Talyllyn running.

As far as we know, this is the only family saga ever written set on a narrow gauge railway - not surprisingly a Welsh one in this case.

The Gwernal Valley Railway is fictitious, but embodies the characteristics of many Welsh narrow gauge lines, and this truly delightful book chronicles four generations of the Roberts family, and their adventures as they work on the railway, from Owen who joins as a teenager when it is being built, to Gwilym who final moves away after it is shut.

Brian Jones

Brian is hoping to have the steam sound version of his FX4U soundcard ready for Stoneleigh. The first recording will be of the 9F 2-10-0 from the  Bluebell Railway (92240), but there are others to follow. At present he doesn't have recordings of any narrow gauge steam locos. So, if anyone  wants one just let him know at the show....
