An update on the 2011 Show from Nigel Town
So, with all the show stuff carefully packed back in the loft for another year it’s time to reflect. I was really taken with "Sir Haydn" sitting there it looked so small and out of context. I am very grateful to the team from the Talyllyn for bringing their engine across from Wales for us and presenting it so well, metalwork all super polished!
Turning to the smaller engines there were some interesting new items to be seen from the largest number of traders we’ve ever hosted. I was quite taken with the new Roundhouse Leek and Manifold, as I looked at it from a healthy distance I tried to rehearse the conversation with my wife in my mind, but I couldn’t make it stick – did you?
Opening the hall 30 minutes earlier did appear to have the impact of smoothing out the initial surge as the doors opened, the numbers of attendees to the show were in-line with the 2009 and 2010 figures.
The prize draw now has a rival in terms of drawing the afternoon crowd. The Heritage team had organised an auction of “heritage items” ranging from publications, rolling stock and locomotives. The success of this secures it’s place in the 2012 show framework. I’ve also had a number of complaints from members who didn’t win anything in the prize draw......
We were pleased to see the popularity of the modelling demonstrations – well done to Brian’s team.
With the successes of 2011 behind us it’s time to focus on the new venue and 2012.
Get the date in your diary for 2012 - 31st March - it's in mine!
I have seen a couple of video’s already posted on the web. Have a browse if you have a spare 5 minutes, makes for a great testimonial to a great show. Look forward to seeing in 2012
