The 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers chartered two special trains on the Ffestiniog Railway on 11th May 2002 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Association. The Ffestiniog did us proud, with the trains formed of immaculate vintage stock.
The first train was pulled by the replica single Fairlie locomotive Taliesin, leaving Porthmadig Harboutr in fine style. Unfortunately the locomotive failed near the Moelwyn tunnel and and had to back the train to Tan-y-Bwlch. We could then choose whether to return to Porthmadog with the special or take a service train to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Those who returned to Porthmadog could take the second special train.
With Taliesin out of action, the double Fairlie locomotive Earl of Merioneth hauled the second special train. Members on this trip enjoyed a fish and chip supper served on the train at Blaenau before returning to Porthmadog.
Many members seized the opportunity of sampling other Welsh narrow gauge railways including the Welsh Highland at Porthmadog and Caernarfon.
All in all Grand Day Out.
