16mm Today magazine

The first issue of “16mm Today” was published back in 1977. It has been published once a quarter ever since then. We reached a landmark in 2002 when issue number 100 was published.

During its long publishing history, “16mm Today” (or SMT as it sometimes affectionately called by our members) has evolved from a typewritten document a few pages long and distributed to a few score members to a full-colour glossy magazine, at least 48 pages long (often 56 pages) and packed with articles on all aspects of 16mm modelling as well as advertisements from a large number of 16mm traders and suppliers. And our print run has increased to 2,750 copies.

Tag Gorton has been editor since issue number 101. Tag is a long-standing member of the 16mm Association and a prolific writer on 16mm topics. His knowledge and expertise was recognised in 2004 when Tag was appointed as editor of GardenRail, the UK’s only monthly magazine covering garden railways in general, including 16mm scale.

Tag will be stepping down as editor of SMT in 2006, after four years in the job, when David Clark (member number 6041) will take up the baton. It will be great to see how David can further develop a magazine that must be one of the highest quality publications for any modelling association in the UK.

The articles in 16mm Today are written by our members, for the benefit of their fellow members. See how to write an article for 16mm Today for some pointers on how to do this. Examples of recent articles are shown below:
